We created this site to help pets everywhere! We are passionate about pet health and believe that pet parents deserve modern and honest information that puts the health of their pet above all else. Our content will always be truthful and authentic.
We are a team of holistic health care professionals across many different fields. Doctors, dietitians, nutritionists, healers, trainers, rescuers, rehabilitators and more. We have dedicated our lives to helping pets. We draw upon decades of experience, modern holistic research and first hand clinical results.
Our professionally reviewed resources and articles provide everyone the opportunity to learn about healing pets naturally. Occasionally, we will spotlight the products that we have found to work the best, but we will only mention a recommendation for a product if we have actually used it. We cover many different systems and illnesses and love hearing from our readers.

Dr. Candy Akers, DVM
Our team is led by Dr. Candy Akers, and Journeys Holistic Veterinary Services provides educational resources for pet parents along with online holistic consultation services.
Dr. Candy Akers is a veterinarian by academic profession, and a skilled whole-family healer. She practices Integrative medicine by incorporating the best of holistic healing and modern conventional medicine.
She believes in getting to the root of the problem. By addressing the cause of disease, we can help balance and heal the body instead of simply treating symptoms. This philosophy led her to develop a love for holistic nutrition and whole-food-based supplements. When used correctly, food can help repair the body’s systems and restore wellness.
Dr. Candy completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Delaware and graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. Her interest in animal healing began in high school, when she was drawn to wildlife rehabilitation. Working in wildlife rehab gave her unparalleled experience in a field with limited resources and a wide variety of conditions to treat.
Before veterinary school, she spent two years working full time in wildlife oil spill response throughout the country. Since earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, she has specialized in companion animal nutrition. Her extensive education in nutrition has made her a firm believer in species-specific, biologically appropriate diets.
One of her greatest passions is educating pet parents about natural alternatives that actually work. She brings holistic health and conventional medicine together in a unique approach to pet health, particularly for chronic diseases, allergies, and autoimmune conditions.
For nine years, Dr. Candy operated her own mobile veterinary practice in Colorado, visiting pets in the comfort of their homes. During these appointments, she could spend an hour with pet parents instead of the six minutes a veterinarian may spend talking with a client during a typical clinic schedule.
In addition to running her practice, she gave educational talks for schools, pet store employees, feed stores, and pet rescue groups. She and her team also built a network of pet stores and animal health facilities to offer low-cost vaccine and vaccine titer clinics to thousands of pets. They traveled throughout the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains, helping pet parents who did not have access to a local holistic veterinarian.
While practicing in Colorado, Dr. Candy received multiple local awards and volunteered with veterinary health organizations such as PetAid and 9News PetCheck.
She is also a leading expert in cold laser therapy for pets. She works hard to educate families about this safe and effective technology and the ways it can support healing throughout the whole family. By sharing her knowledge and experience with low-level laser therapy, she helps families and pets around the world. Using safe, handheld cold laser devices, she has developed protocols that help pets recover from injuries such as IVDD and CCL tears without surgery.
Dr. Candy now lives in Woodward, Oklahoma, and serves pet parents online through holistic veterinary consultations and guided healing programs. When she is not working, she enjoys gardening and spending time with her family. On her days “off,” you might find her preparing home-cooked food for all of her pets, including dogs, cats, birds, tortoises, snakes, and lizards.
Overall, she has dedicated her entire life to improving the health and happiness of animals everywhere.
