Standard Process Feline Hepatic Support: A Holistic Veterinarian’s Therapeutic Review

The following information is a summary and review based on Dr. Candy’s professional experience and recommendations. Any summary or statement has not been provided nor influenced by the manufacturer.

I am Dr. Candy Akers and I can’t stress enough the importance of liver health in cats. This vital organ is often underestimated, yet it plays a crucial role in ensuring our feline friends lead a healthy, vibrant life. Beyond its well-known functions of filtering and detoxifying, the liver is instrumental in digestion, nutrient absorption, blood pressure and inflammation control, and the metabolism and storage of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. It’s also involved in red blood cell recycling and managing itching and allergy conditions.

In our contemporary environment, laden with chemicals, toxins, and carcinogens, the need for liver support in cats is paramount. Preservatives and poisons often contaminate the foods our pets consume, posing additional challenges to their liver health. Conventional veterinary medicine, unfortunately, offers limited solutions to these challenges, with prescription diets often containing undesirable ingredients and synthetic supplements offering minimal relief.

In my practice, I advocate for a holistic approach to animal health, focusing on natural methods to alleviate the underlying causes of liver disease. By reducing the liver’s workload and addressing chronic inflammation, we pave the way for enhanced liver function and overall health. Standard Process Feline Hepatic Support has proven to be a highly effective supplement in this regard, offering a natural, potent solution for liver support.

It’s essential for pet owners to be vigilant and recognize the warning signs that indicate a need for liver support. By addressing these issues proactively, we can significantly improve the quality of life for our beloved pets, ensuring they remain healthy and vibrant. Utilizing natural supplements like Standard Process Feline Hepatic Support not only supports liver function but also contributes to the overall well-being of cats, aligning with my commitment to holistic, natural, and effective animal healthcare solutions.

Feline Hepatic Support

Feline Hepatic Support Complementary Supplements:

Important Mineral Measurements:

  • Calcium 2.5 mg / 1/2 teaspoon
  • Manganese 800 mcg / 1/2 teaspoon

Important Supplement Information:

  • These supplements should all be given twice a day.
  • Most clients sprinkle it on their pet’s food.
  • Because these supplements are made from whole foods, and not chemicals, doses are highly palatable.  In fact, it often seems like animals instinctively know what their body needs and gobble it up quickly.

When beginning supplementation, I recommend the following taper-up process. This is only because these ingredients are so nutrient-dense. We can decrease your pet’s adjustment period, which may result in a soft stool. This adjustment phase is generally 1-2 days long and normal consistency of stool will return to normal without treatment.

  • Give your cat 1 tablet twice daily OR 1/4 tsp of the equivalent canine powder twice daily or as directed

Side Effect of Standard Process Feline Hepatic Support

Since these nutritional supplements are made from food, there is little to no risk of side effects. The only side effect I’ve ever seen is diarrhea if the pet gets a gigantic dose. For example, if a pet eats a whole bottle. If I had a dollar for every time one of my pets ate a whole bottle, I’d have a pretty full piggy bank. Since pets love these products so much, we recommend keeping them in a cabinet or someplace that your pet cannot get to.

A Note From the Manufacturer:

Standard Process Solutions

“Standard Process Canine Hepatic Support is designed to support the liver at multiple levels. This support is provided through the combination of whole food nutrients, gland and organ extracts and concentrates, along with botanical ingredients. It is important to recognize that the liver is a complex organ with numerous interactions between the intestinal tract, cardiovascular system, kidney, and autonomic nervous system. Therefore, broad support for the liver can only be accomplished with combinations of nutrients that facilitate optimal function of these related areas. With this synergistic grouping of factors, Hepatic Support can be used in a wide range of hepatic conditions. In addition, Hepatic Support can be beneficial for reducing hepatic metabolic stress when used in situations when pharmaceuticals like phenobarbital or glucocorticoids are used long-term.

The liver is a complex organ that interacts with many other organs in the body, including the intestinal tract, the heart and lungs, the kidneys, and the autonomic nervous system. Canine Hepatic Support and Feline Hepatic Support assist and maintain the liver’s response to metabolic demands and the liver’s ability to regenerate. This support is provided through the combination of whole food nutrients. Capitalizing on the complexity of food, Standard Process has provided broad-spectrum coverage for the liver, which can only be accomplished with combinations of nutrients that facilitate optimal function of these related areas.

Canine Hepatic Support or Feline Hepatic Support may be recommended for general liver support, in patients with increased metabolic demand such as during long term medication use, when laboratory tests shows evidence of increased stress on the liver and kidneys or even during intestinal disease.”
